Comebacks in Song Form

So, like movie quotes, where someone makes a comment then I come back with a line from a movie, I sometimes do the same with songs.

I'll have a student tell me that I am crazy. So I start singing, "Crazy, I'm crazy for feeling so lonely." by Patsy Cline

A student or one of my children will say that they don't want that. I come back with "You can't always get what you want. But if you try sometimes, you might find, you get what you need." by the Rolling Stones.

As we are leaving, of course we have to sing the Goodbye song from the Sound of Music. "So long, farewell, auf Wiedersehen, good-bye."

Or when looking for somebody I'll sing from Pink Floyd, "Hello, Hello, Hello, is there anybody out there?" or I'll substitute "in there".

Just the other day a student was walking away from the group and the teacher called out, "Hey, turn around." So of course I start singing, "Turn around, every now and then I get a little..." from Bonnie Tyler's Total Eclipse of the Heart. This got the teacher laughing, she said that was the first song she ever sang karaoke to.

Yesterday Chloe asked me, "Mom, what day is it?" So of course I had to answer with"What day is it would you please tell me, what day is it I'm confused you see.." which is a Space Ghost song sung by Brak.

Most of the time the songs are popular ones that people recognize. But depending on my audience, the reference is too old for them, or just too obscure for them. Some songs are more of the inside joke kind.

Oh, well. It's just funny. Going back to the term 'crazy', instead of singing Patsy Cline, I could sing Aerosmith, Gnarls Barkley or Britney Spears. They each have a song titled crazy.

Do you ever answer people in song form?

Movie Quotes

Today I caught The Princess Bride on the Family Channel. Even though this is a movie I have on VHS, I stopped to watch it on TV. I was quoting right along with the movie in a few of my favorite parts. Cooper and Chloe kept looking at me like, "How do you know this?" and the older boys were more concerned about when this movie was made. Some favorites are as follows, "Mahwage, is what bwings us hewe togefer today." "I'm not a witch, I'm your wife." "Hello, my name is Inigo Montoya, you killed my father, prepare to die."

So after this I channel surfed and there was another movie I just love, O, Brother Where Art Thou. Even though I own this movie on DVD and VHS and have the soundtrack, I paused to watch this. Again, I quoted along with the movie, here are some of my favorite, "Gopher Everett?" "That was a mighty fine a-pickin' and a-singin'" "I'm the paterfamilias" "Well ain't this place a geographical oddity, it's two weeks from anywhere" "The colorguard is colored? Who made them the colorguard?" "Cow Killer!"

I come from a family of TV and movie quoters. Some favorites that I remember were from Pee Wee's Big Adventure, Wayne's World and Tommy Boy. Even now, whenever Kyle is in the bathroom, I'll knock on the door, and when he asks "What?" I'll respond with "Housekeeping" and we quote the scene.

I like to say "Oh yeah?" with the accent they used in the movie Fargo among other lines. A line that I like but is lost on people comes from a Hayley Mills movie, In Search of the Castaways, "I be smart."

And if I'm not quoting the Simpson's or Seinfeld then I referencing them. I like a line from the Simpson's that comes from the character Jasper, "You shot who in the what now?".

I Did WHAT Now?

Go to google and simply type "Why did [your name]?" and see what comes up. Presenting...

Why did Naomi...

raized Obed and not Ruth?

encourage her daughters-in-law to stay in Moab?

overreact by cursing out the hospital staff?

nurse the baby as her own?

speak so many languages?

think that Mr. Marble was the best person at Buena Vista Elementary School?

not only feel helpless about herself, but also felt helpless concerning her daughters-in-law situation?

cover for Locke?

have a picture of Des and Penny?

cover for the survivors?

get romantically involved with Otacon if she was going to kill herself?

want to sell her land?

Most of the things about Naomi were either from the Book of Ruth, or about Naomi Campbell. There were a few about Naomi Watts and Naomi Judd, the others came from literary sources.

Fun with Photos

So my sis did this with her blog, which I found to be hilarious, so I of course will copy this idea. Just go to www.photofunia.com to have fun with your photos.

My husband also did a few of his photos and put it on his facebook.
So let's do some comparison too.

I love the soft tones of the chalk.

I wonder if my cats would watch me on tv. And Kyle, an oldie but a goodie.

I think the little boy looks like Cooper.

I wish hot guys were wanting me posted on their walls and on their luscious, muscle-ridden bods.

And I wish I had a bod like this Vegas dancer.

OK, You may need to look away in disgust and say, "Eewww!" This picture may explain why some of my dresses are missing.

I think my mom had this hairdo. C'mon baby, let's do the twist!
