Grown-Up Girl Bonding Time

I had some errands to do on campus today, but no classes.  So, after lunch I took Chloe there with me.  After walking all over and climbing many stairs we got the task done.  So I treated us to some ice cream at the BYU Creamery at the Cougareat.

Chloe had the cookies and cream.  I had the Bishop's Bash, which was chocolate ice cream with burnt almonds and caramel.  Mmmh, Mmmh, Good!  Jealous?

Pumpkin Party

We had a lot of fun at the Pumpkin Party.  We got a late start, but once we started there was no stopping.

For eats we had a stuffed pumpkin, a savory pumpkin dip with crackers, a sweet pumpkin dip with cookies and crackers, pumpkin gooey bars, pumpkin streusel bars, pumpkin muffins and pumpkin-shaped cookies for the kids to frost and decorate.

The kids also got to do some Punkin' Chuckin'.  There were targets in the back yard, sling-shots for the smaller pumpkins and when they ran out of pumpkins they started shooting crab apples.

We also had pumpkin carving.  There were some funny faces, a lion and Chloe's name.

There was plenty of good conversation and games.  This is my second annual party.  I've been thinking about having parties featuring other foods.  Hmm, almost like my own Iron Chef, each dish must contain the featured ingredient.

Cool House

Our furnace wouldn't turn on.  We could hear it click and hum like it was about to turn on, but it would never blow.  So last night Kyle called a heating and air company.  They sent out a technician and yes, our furnace is broken.  So then they had one of their sales reps come out and tell us our options.

So it will be back into the crawl space for Kyle.  He's got to put some gravel down there for a condensation drip tube for the new furnace.

I wonder what else can break down before Christmas, we've had the dishwasher and water heater replaced.  Also, our sub-woofer for our computer speakers broke down so our music sounds funny. Oh, and we got a new minivan.   Apparently someone thinks we're made of money.

Rainbow

I was walking to my car after class last night.  It had been rainy all day.  It was evening, the sun was casting that sweet light on the mountains.  As I was walking down the stairs I saw someone with a camera taking a picture.  I wondered what they were capturing, then I saw the rainbow over the mountain.  It was beautiful.  I thought about taking a picture too.  But, I only had my phone's camera and it takes crappy pictures and wouldn't do it justice.  I guess I felt that if I couldn't capture the beauty of it it wasn't worth it.

Another reason I didn't take out my phone to take a picture is because I didn't want anyone seeing me take a picture of the rainbow.  I could just hear their thoughts, "Geez, lady, you've never seen a rainbow?"  Then in my thoughts I answer back, "Yes, I've seen a rainbow many times, does that mean I don't ever need to look at a rainbow again?"

This rainbow was beautiful with the mountain as a backdrop.  I could see the whole arc.  Usually I just see one end of a rainbow.  Also, the violet was vibrant and each color was distinct.  Most rainbows I see are hazy and the violet is faint.

Anyway, I just liked the rainbow and wanted to share.  (is it crazy for me to have imaginary conversations in my head with strangers?)

Here is Kyle wearing his big boy pants

Isn't he just darling?

Kyle and his big boy pants

We had a pipe leaking under the house in the crawl space.  Kyle and Zane went to check it out.  There was a pool of water that was moldy.  Anyway, it has been making the house smell like mildew.  At first I thought it was the garbage disposal or the broken dishwasher.  Well, we remedied those.  Turns out it was a busted pipe.

So, Kyle went to Home Depot and bought a replacement pipe.  Then to prepare for his subterranean fix-it job, he suited up.  He got on his grungy denim shirt.  Then he got on his Carhart tan work overalls.  He told me that he may need my help getting the shoulder straps on.  Then I said, "Aw, do you need help getting dressed?  Does little Kyle need help getting his big boy pants on?"  He made some comment about that's why he keeps me around, because if we were divorced there wouldn't be anybody to help him get his work clothes on.

So, Kyle and Zane went below, switched out the bad pipe.  They will probably go back under tomorrow to fix another leaky spot.  Kyle thinks we need to have our pipes snaked.  I'll be sure to keep you all posted because I know that you are just on the edge of your seats to see how my pipes turn out.
